We have to boldly accept that our life will smash us with a wave of adversities. Sometimes those waves can build up so much as to cause us to drown in emotional despair…but only we have the power to jolt ourselves to reality, swim back up to the surface of hope and breathe a fresh air of life.

I couldn’t exemplify this more than the story of JK Rowling, who started writing at the tender age of 5. In 1992, she suffered an abusive marriage and ended up divorcing, she had two mouths to feed and lived on welfare, suffering from depression, yet her passion for writing kept her keeping on.

In 1995 she wrote her manuscript, ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone’, which got rejected by 12 publishers but eventually got accepted at the 13th attempt, even though the interests was fairly dim at first. However, she persisted and her first 500 copies became a huge hit in the library. eventually she went on to sell 8000 copies. As the sequels came out she was making huge profits and eventually hit $15 billion with the franchise. She went on to win many awards and prizes for her work.

What JK Rowling’s story demonstrates is that if we have a strong passion and purpose and keep persisting, opportunity will eventually come. If we believe, magical things happen. No matter how big the storm, we must absorb its power, keep on walking and never give up.

It gives many of us hope that even at our worst, when we feel there is nothing left of our life, we can truly create our destiny through our choices, but it all starts with having a reason why that will pull you out of the quicksand of gloom when we truly feel we are sinking.

If you are reading this article right now, and have had your setbacks, know that it is never too late to be the success that you want. Keep marching, never give up.
